I agree with Harris-Perry: it does appear that there is a level of racism within the democratic party. As a long time democrat/independent, I agree that it seems as if our President is being judged by a different set of standards. It comes across as the age-old stereotype/racist behavior of expecting a person of color in a title of power to be absolutely perfect, and when the person is not (as people are rarely perfect), then people seem to revert to old stereotypes or have an overall reduced sense of patience or compassion. I feel that people are too quick to fault Obama….but politics are politics, and Obama is just one man. He cannot change the political machine as a whole in a few years. I am often saddened when I see that people fail to acknowledge the good things that Obama has accomplished during his presidency–such as making a step towards equal pay amongst the genders (The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act), he signed a memorandum requiring hospitals to allow gays and lesbians to have non-family visitors and to grant their partners medical power of attorney (a very big step towards full equality for the LGBT community), got Osama Bin Laden, etc. And it is upsetting that people are blaming the economic crisis that took years to create, on Obama, who is really just trying to rectify the problems left by Bush.

Even more overt is the overall lack of respect that people are showing Obama as a human being, let alone our President. The constant referring to Obama as "Osama" when Osama bin Laden was kills, or referring to him as Mr. Obama, or just Obama, but not giving him his Presidential credit where credit is due. Sigh. And I won't touch on the shenanigans of people referring to Obama as a Hitler figure—that is the most offensive to all people as Hitler committed one of the largest atrocities and genocides in recent World History. Obama is NOTHING like Hitler. 🙁

I support Obama, even though I do wish he would bring a little bit of Chicago out more and put some of the jerky republicans in their place when they get out of pocket yelling out ratchedness during his speeches, and whatnot. But I digress.
