I was elated to see “12 years a Slave” get so much recognition, but I wish some of our more creative and imaginative works got similar critical acclaim. That being said, I’ll be oddball in the bunch and say that I hope this is the beginning of a trend. Too many slave movies? I want ALL of the slave movies! Harriet Tubman? Frederick Douglass? Nat Turner? These are real life tales of triumph, tragedy, rebellion, and even prosperity up from slavery that are begging to be told.

But for now, let’s just relish in the cinematic achievements of the 12 Years crew.

Sidenote: I’m team Lupita as Storm all day. Unless they cast Naomie Harris (Tia Dalma in Pirates of the Caribbean & Winnie Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom), I really can’t see anyone who’d be better suited for the role. : http://twitpic.com/dxprwa
