I saw A Wrinkle in Time this past weekend and absolutely loved it! I went in knowing it was a kids movie and the kid in me was mesmerized. You touched on everything I loved about the movie. I actually enjoyed Mrs. WhatsIt. I cried so much in this movie! The unpopular, awkward teen in me empathized with Meg. Thankfully I had not seen any previews so everything was new to me. I read the book a LONG time ago so I had a vague idea of what was going on.

I hate that so many people aren’t giving this movie an honest try. On my way in, I ran into a friend going to see Black Panther for the 3rd time. She told she enjoyed the movie but it wasn’t Black Panther. True, and it’s not supposed to be. I think it’s a movie that all little kids should go see. I probably won’t be seeing it again in the theater. Not because it’s not worth it, but because I’m not trying to cry that much in public again.

A Wrinkle In Time is usually striking as it is well-told. I did enjoy the three Miss, even though Reese Witherspoon’s character was being a jerk to Meg, at times. Storm Reid was great as Meg Murry and she carried the film like a champ. As great as she was, I was supremely impressed with Deric McCabe’s Charles Wallace. The fact that kid was able to convey dramatic scenes & weighty dialogue really impressed me. Most kid actors when I was growing up, weren’t able to carry such scenes like he did & I give credit to Ava Duvernay for that, as well. I do wish the film gave us 10-15 minutes of extra explanation on how the science works; those parts were intriguing, we just didn’t get much time with it, since the film kept moving along. That aside, I thought it was really good, overall.

    Hi Rod and Karen,

I agree with everything you two said about A Wrinkle in Time. I especially agree with Rod that the movie could have used an extra twenty minutes to go deeper into things, but as per usual, Karen brought the point home by saying its a children’s story, and some of the very things adults will criticize about the film is what makes it perfect for kids. This is a movie you can take a five or six year old to and they will love, and an extra twenty minutes would not work for them.

I will say that some of the not so subtle attempts to undercut the film that is going on is infuriating, such as using Black Panther’s gross to tear it down and some of the comments being made about Ava’s skill as a director, when this film shows she is actually operating on a whole nother level because the spectacle and wonder on display is top notch. Even if the haters succeed in dissuading some from going to see this film, I am confident that A Wrinkle in Time will become one of those classics that everyone will later claim they loved from jump, or future generations will look back on and shake their heads over our failure to show up for the film

The main reason I saw this movie was to support Ava DuVernay (I’m not really into the fantasy children movies). I really enjoyed this movie, great performances by the cast (especially Storm Reid and Deric McCabe). I hope it does well in the box office.
