Hi Rod and Bassey,
Last week’s episode had me giving Kate the hard side eye. I have heard a handful of people say that they didn’t like Rebecca and I don’t understand why. She loves her kids, doesn’t the best she can and i love her interaction with Jack and Randall. She goes hard for her family. For the entire episode, I was waiting to see what made Rebecca the big bad in Kate’s eyes. So when Kate hit Rebecca with the Shablamo (shout out to teen titans go) I wanted to jump through the screen and pistol whip her.
That was so foul. “Because she existed?” Her feelings were hurt because Kate tried to give her some constructive criticism? Kate is lucky she wasn’t raised by a black mom because her feelings would have been hurt constantly. Can’t nobody put a kid in their place like a black mama. And to here my African friends tell it, their moms were a lot worse. She clearly still needs therapy.
I already said it but I’ll say it again, I hate Sophie. It seems she’s been pushing Kevin to make stupid ass decisions since they were kids. She’s a piece of shit and I hope she and Miguel drive off a cliff together. And then I want Kate to piss on her grave for writing that note to her when they were kids. Yeah, I got issues too, but I’ve come to terms with them. Sue me.
Hey Bassey and Rod,
In regards to your discussion about Kate and Rebecca, I have a theory that Kate’s animosity toward her mom grew after Jack’s death because Kate may blame Rebecca for his death. Also, depending on when Rebecca married Miguel, Kate may have seen that as Rebecca trying to replace the best dad in the world with mediocre at best, Miguel.
Since Kate and Jack have a really special bond, she may have intertwined these feelings with those Young Kate insecurities, and when she blows up at Rebecca all those feelings come out, and because we don’t know how Jack dies, and we haven’t seen what happened within those 20 years, Kate’s actions seem irrational. It might make more sense when we see the immediate aftermath of Jack’s death.

Woo. This episode was uncomfortable. The whole damn thing. I’m hoping the writers give us a little bit of a reprieve soon.
1) Shoutout to Miguel’s ex-wife for giving trash advice based on her relationship with her trash ex-husband.
2) I really enjoy the actress who plays teenage Kate. That little look she shared with Rebecca while they were in the kitchen made me soften up a little toward present-day Kate.
3) Annie asking if they could send the foster daughter back had me screaming. I had to pause the show from laughing. Stacey Dash was over it.
4) I’m all torn up about Kevin not being able to grieve his Dad and them hinting at addiction issues for his character. But at least there was no Sophie.

Hi Rod and Bassey,
I was listening to the feedback show and I had a different take on Kate and Becca. I think that Kate is just now developing emotional maturity. The outburst are something that a typical teenager might do. Kate, at age 37 is just hitting emotional milestones that should’ve happened years ago. She didn’t lash out as a teenager, she just ate her feelings. As recently as 1st season Kate wouldn’t have expressed her feelings, she would’ve ate them. So while it’s not the best way to express herself, its new territory she’s navigating.
Another thing is while I don’t think that Becca is a mean mom and deliberately made Kate feel inferior, I don’t think Becca picked on Kate’s nonverbal queues. Which is why Jack and Kate were so close. They almost had an unspoken language.
