Easily one of my favorite episodes ever! Chill is no joke! Enjoyed the interchange between the two of you regarding your thoughts on whether atheism is a religion. Also Rod's point-by-point break down on his rationale for why it isn't one (which I agree). Regarding same sex marriage, I don't have a problem with it until they talk about having it performed in a ceremony of a religion which clearly prohibits it. In that situation, I understand their outrage. That said, a ceremony outside of those religions is perfectly fine.

I have had that same atheism discussion. People think since there are atheist organizations, then atheism is a religion. Those organizations exist for awareness/lobbying purposes, same as the NRA, PETA, MADD, GLAAD, etc. I've had this conversation numerous times with people. It's starting to get annoying and it is offending my good atheist sensibilities . So now, I just call every group or club a religion, golf club, gun club, football, book club, whatever it's all a religion. I asked my aunt to explain how her gardening group was different from "that nature-loving witchcraft" (her words for Wicca). She was not amused. I made a female cry while having the "atheism is a not a religion" conversation. At least, I was having that conversation. I think she took everything I was saying as "you are a dumb blonde, how dare you have an opinion. Stay in your place and fetch me a sandwich." From what she was saying during her emotional breakdown, I think she was just fed up with being schooled by people. She was using me to say what she needed to say to her husband. She is dumb and proud of it, but cries when challenged. If I were a better person, I would stop talking to her. But I'm not and it's funny. Anyway, gotta start my morning. Live free y'all.

I must have read the same thing Montoyis read. Okay, how about this one: "Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sexual position."-Bill Maher

The idea of atheism being a religion comes from a need for those on the religious right to come up with false equivalencies during arguments when they are getting their asses handed to them. Or, at least that sounds like a good guess.

But if the word "religion" can be interchangeable with "creed", "faith", "belief", yeah I guess you could make a stretch to say atheism is faith that there are no "gods".

But as far as an example of atheism being a full-on organized "thing"…?? This, the following is the best I could come up with:

    LaVeyan Satanism

Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan in 1966 and has released several publications such as "The Satanic Bible" and "The Satanic Scriptures", etcetera. Their philosophies and teachings draw mostly from Ayn Rand (interesting, so does Paul Ryan) and Friedrich Nietzsche. They mostly call themselves "Satanists" to fuck with people given that they do not believe in the supernatural at all, nor God or Satan. "Satanism begins with atheism. We begin with the universe and say, 'It’s indifferent. There’s no God, there’s no Devil. No one cares!'" Most notable celebrities that have been linked to the COS are Marilyn Manson, John Travolta, and Sammy Davis Jr.

    The Bavarian Illuminati

On May 1st, 1776 Adam Weishaupt made an organization modeled after The Order of Freemasonry, with one major exception: you didn't have to believe in a god or after life to join. "Illumination, enlightening the understanding by the sun of reason, which will dispel the clouds of superstition and of prejudice."

And if you read this far, thanks for entertaining my bullshit.

Great show, y'all. I enjoyed that atheism debate. I saw where Karen was coming from but I agree with Rod. I saw a quote that said "If atheism is a religion then not playing baseball is a sport". Made sense to me. The political talk initiated by Chill was damn good also. It's always good to hear people discuss politics with well thought out opinions instead of blind rhetoric. Y'all take it easy.

Hey 10 star Karen and 2 STAR ROD!!! Why you ask? Maybe because you were being all sensible and shit! "I understand where the atheists are coming from." *Ray J voice* I got seven Rolls-Royces full of lizards that will take yo wife Rod. They'll hide her somewhere preferably in the city of NYC and keep her captive in a room with a BIG ASS LIZARD that has a history with being good at science and has the name of Curt Connors. You know what? Shirley would defend the lizards, so get ratchet! Nah, I'm just fucking with y'all. I enjoyed the episode a lot. I want to give Chill a shout out for making us think about politics more. I feel like too many people are seeing things as black and white and not grey. I also feel like too many people are underestimate blacks way too much, given for what we've done over the years especially when we were given "equal rights" for less than 70 years.
