    Hey, this is Toy,

I knew when Beth walked in and Randall had that household budget spreadsheet open that Beth’s dream of being a ballerina was about to be OVER. What pissed me off about it though was the fact that Randall immediately was like “Bitch hang this shit up, and stay at home with these kids!” Fuck Randall. I would’ve understood a little better if he had said, “We really need to be here for the kids. Can you work a regular 8-5 and maybe teach classes part-time on the weekends?” A part of me is wondering if Randall is the way he is because his mom was a stay at home mom whose entire life revolved around her husband and children. Beth is NOT Rebecca. Shout out to Black Girl Magic! The fact that Kevin fucked up on every level in this episode and Randall out ass-holed him says a lot.

Hopefully Randall redeems himself by the end of the season because I’m really rooting for their Black Love…UGH!!!!

    Hey Rod and Bassey,

I just wanted to write to say I am tired of giving Randall chances and him breaking my heart.
Things are getting a little tough and he is out here just telling Beth to give up her dreams while he follows dream 201 of just the last two years.

He should’ve thought of how difficult supporting and managing a family would be BEFORE he ran off to run for councilman in a whole other state. He is out here saying these kids need a routine in their life. Where was that energy when he decided to quit his job to be a slumlord for his biological fathers old apartment complex. I hope somebody in his family slaps some goddamn sense into his head in LA.

Randall anger aside, I really hope that Kate and the baby come out of this fine and healthy. I can’t handle any more of these Pearsons dying yall. Just CANT.

I do hope this was the wake-up call Kevin needed. I am glad Kate caught on to Kevins lies and his drug addiction quickly, which makes me mad all over again that Sophie a Nurse Practitioner could not catch all these bold ass, bright as fuck neon signs that Kevin was not okay in season 2.

Alright thanks for doing this podcast. As always your thought process for these is so much more well thought out than any other podcast related to This Is Us.

    Keep it up

    Much love,

    M-dog.

I’m going to keep this brief because I’m too mad the process anything. I thought for sure that Randall was going to tell Beth that he’d resign and go back to trading weather or whatever so she wouldn’t have to sacrifice yet again but this negro really fixed his mouth to ask her to put teaching on hold as if her dreams aren’t as significant as his. And btw, he didn’t grow up dreaming of being a politician! How could he be so sensitive with Deja and then be so selfish and insensitive with Beth? And to do this after she just said she had an amazing first day! The nerve!

    Dear Rod and Bassey,

Two really big things stood out for me this episode.

Randall. You ashy ass negro. I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you. Fuck you.

I was triggered as fuck when Kate went into early labor. I had my daughter at 24 weeks so I could feel every bit of that fear when Kate said her water broke. I was somewhat relieved when they said that she was 28 weeks along. That’s still super early for a baby to be born but the survival rate for a baby born that early is around 45 to 50 percent and if the hospital has a really good NICU center then that percentage increases a little. It’s still scary odds but I’m hoping little Jack pulls through. I mean come on, we already know she’s going to name that baby Jack. I’m hoping the writers don’t kill the baby off because I think they would have an excellent storyline of having the baby in the NICU for the months that it will need to be hospitalized before released. Having a child in the hospital that long can take a toll on you mentally, physically and even on your marriage so it would be interesting to see how Kate and Toby can weather through this storm, especially when they already have their own individuals issues.

Other than that, I’m really hoping that this will be Kevin’s wake up call as far as the drinking goes and that Zoey will be the support he needs because Kate won’t be much help in the coming months and that ashy ass brother of his is too busy chasing his dreams and wrecking his marriage to check on Kevin.

Did I mention that Randall is ashy? Oh, I did? Well, fuck him.

    Hey Rod and Bassey

Y’all!!! Randall is fucking trash yo , I thought I would never have to say that about him ,but fuck that shit! I was hoping with baited breath he was going to say , “baby I got you ,I will stay home with the girls follow your dreams boo.”

But nooooo this nigga had to stay being the selfish muthafucka he has been – fuck this shit , he is trash!

On a more positive note- happy for Deja and understand what she was saying about not wanting to lose her new found family stability. Thank god Randall let that teacher know about what she did to Deja but he still trash…lol

I have no clue where they might go with Kate and the baby . My hope is Kate and the baby survive but they might end up giving the baby the same heart condition Jack had. I’ve read some theory online that someone posted about how Nicky might remind everyone about jack’s condition and help them save baby – possibly in some sort of way. The foreshadowing of that line “passing something on of dad’s” had me wondering about the baby. But with these writers they can go a number of different ways – who knows (shrugs) Anyways so glad the show is back so you guys can come back and continue your awesome recaps!

    Thanks Rod and Bassey,

    Hi Rod and Bassey,

    Two things:

Firstly, I can’t remember if you’ve mentioned this, but I’ve been rewatching Game of Thrones lately, and noticed Melanie Liburd (Zoe) in season 6 — she plays one of the red priestesses like Melisandre. So it gives a little more meaning to that episode where Kevin makes all those GoT references, lol.

Secondly, is it just me, or does this drama with Beth and Randall seem manufactured? I mean, I know it’s a TV show, so literally all of it is manufactured, but like, they couldn’t ask Rebecca and Miguel if they could help? I don’t know how far away they live, but they pop their asses up whenever anything else happens, lol. Or couldn’t Randall at least ask if there were other time options for Beth’s classes? Another studio? It had to go right into, “Sorry, Beth, you gotta give this up.” It feels like they (Randall) didn’t even try for another solution, and that’s disingenuous to me. Single parents do this all the time.

I’m not saying Randall is above being an asshole – it’s been almost two seasons at this point, so maybe that’s just his character – but that’s not really what they gave us in season one. And maybe the writers think they built him up too much, so now they have to knock him down, but my god, enough. If they want to break up Randall and Beth, they’re going to have to do better than, “One of us has to give up our dreams because of plot contrivances.” Especially since Randall has had this “dream” for like eight minutes. Personally, I’d rather see the effect it has on their family/marriage if they succeed at what they’re doing and they’re always gone. That’s a valid issue in a relationship, and it doesn’t have to turn a beloved character into someone I wanna punch in the face every week.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this episode!

By the way, I’ve been a member of Kevin Hive since season one, and I also like Lawrence on Insecure, so I really feel seen with y’all. Thank you!

    Ashley

Greetings Rod & Bassey! The day after I watched this episode, I was reading Michelle Obama’s book and she talks about the differences between her and Barack and how they approach life. Michelle is the one who does everything by the book, while Barack has always gone with the flow and just expects everything to work out. While she was thinking about a new job and how it will affect the family and Barack’s political ambitions. Barack said of course she could do it and they will be lucky to have her and she will crush it. I thought, oh my god, Randall and Beth are Barack and Michelle! Did the writer’s have an advanced copy of the book? LOL!
