Better than it has any right to be. Fun fact: The VFX Studio that redid the Sonic design, MPC, a studio in Vancouver, shut down before Sonic’s first-ever movie in 2020. Glossing up the titular character, obviously, came at a cost.

But, yeah, it’s a fairly decent, entertaining romp, basically anchored by Ben Schwartz’s solid voice work & Jim Carrey playing Dr. Robotnik, as if he & Fire Marshall Bill had a kid. It works. It shouldn’t but playing the Doc like some straight man, would just be too boring for this.

Film needed more Natasha Rothwell (luckily, the sequel rectifies that, somewhat) & Tika Sumpter out of all the actors did feel left out. A woman that gorgeous can’t be left alone….and she’s talented. She played as Michelle Obama, for christ sake. Anyway, in the long list of video game movies, this is one of the better ones.
