Greetings rod and Karen. Maaannnn james gunn don’t miss do he? I loved his version of superman. From the very beginning to the very end. I don’t know, but the way they broke it down about 3 centuries ago the first metahumans came to earth to 3 mind superman
Sorry about that. I hit comment button by mistake. As I was saying. The way they explained the 3 centuries to 3 minutes ago was chef’s kiss. I seen the upcoming projects that Gunn has locked and loaded for the dcu and I’m pumped for all of them. But someone needs to put a bug in his ear about one particular project I think only james Gunn can be successful with. Bring that black lightning to the big screen dawg! Can you imagine that racist ass Tobias whale in IMAX or that fine as daughter of black lightning in the theater? Directed by….. Tyler Perry. Naw I’m playing. [Unless he gone dew it]. Alright y’all talk with you later!!
This movie was SO AMAZING it really reminded me of the Christopher Reeves Superman. That was the first movie that I saw in theaters, and because my dad was a nerd, he let me skip school to go see it with him. I was even allowed to hold the popcorn. My dad has been gone for about 16yrs, and I couldn’t help thinking about how my dad would have LOVED this movie. Gunn really got the softness/toughness balance just right. So far, 2025 is shaping up to be a stellar movie year!
Karen got me dying with her joke about Guy Gardner, now I can’t unsee Nathan Fillion as lesser version of Woody Harrellson lmao.
I really digged this movie. Thanks to hearing you guys saying that you were going to see it on Tuesday, I looked up if I could see it earlier near my small town in Germany (backup plan was to drive to Amsterdam) and that’s how I got a Wednesday viewing in English with German subtitles. Won’t Kang Do It!
This movie had heart, performances, and moments. I wasn’t big on DC properties until I became a parent and had to make sure that my kid doesn’t inherit my complete bias so I exposed the intergalactic one to DC intentionally. But now I can say that I’m officially a Supes fan. I did feel like they over did it with the amount of “shit” and “bitch” at the end. I still laughed but I could imagine the complaints. Overall, I appreciate James Gunn standing on business. I got to watch this again on American soil.
I need a day to gather my overall thoughts on Supes ’25, but at the end of it all, even with the pacing of it, yeah, it’s a Gunn movie all right. Excellent use of colors, VFX, has a LOT to say about the current times we’re in as a society & James clearly hates the Internet like we do and who can blame him, considering some Right-wing scumbags made some shit up, lost his place at Marvel Studios, only to rise from the ashes & have two positions for a time from both studios.
I admittedly came into it late (15 minutes late), so the movie for me “feels off” but it’s because it took a minute for the subtext, characterizations to really sync into my brain. And, yes, Superman is silly, but I think it really plays into its favor, because none of these even the beloved ’78 original, which I love & subsequent ones, really weren’t allowed to be fully realized as this one is.
You can’t do Man of Steel, Superman Returns, or its TV brethren again & the fact that James was allowed to do a film that says a lot, speaks to how good of a writer & how good he is at characterizations. Obviously, David Corenswet’s Superman/Clark Kent gets the job done, Rachel Brosnahan Lois Lane might be the best Lois since the 90s Animated Series (& recently Elizabeth Tulloch’s depiction in Superman & Lois, to be fair) & Nicholas Holt’s Luthor is rousing but the real winner is my man Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific! We can officially say, even if it is a good movie, go fuck yourself, X-Men: First Class! Anytime he was on screen, he basically stole the show. He’s God Damn Terrific! Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced’s Guy Gardner & Hawkgirl are equally very good. Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorphio was great, too. The whole cast has their moments, even if I think Wendell Pierce’s Perry White needed a little more screentime, he cooked when the attention was drawn to him.
In any case, after my Thursday rewatch, I’ll feel firmly grounded as to how I feel about Superman (which I’m pretty confident in saying, it’s another great James Gunn endeavor, if not as brilliant as Guardians Vol 1 & Vol.3 were) but the fact that this film basically fell into his lap after he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, is really a testament to his goodwill.
Good to have you back into relevancy, Supes.
Great film.
