Just in case anyone was still in doubt about spending that cash on TBGWT premium. This review right here is one example why you don’t listen to any enemy of progress out there and just get that premium for yourself. Treat yourself okay!
Man, there’s nothing else to add to this review. It’s purrrrrfect!
Now, to the issue of commercials before trailers before movie, after having tried four different theater chains this year thanks to Alamo Drafthouse strikes (now settled), AMC and Regal is the ghetto to me. They also tried to kill me with their gigantic size of soda cups. By the time they get to trailers, I already want to pee. I just settled for arriving there 15-25 minutes after “start time” to avoid all that commercials/trailers. Alamo only shows trailers, and even sometimes include calls for job applications along with announcing a new location. Yet it’s never felt as long as AMC or Regal, they show so many trailers that even my kid noticed that they it’s a lot. I’ve taken two kids to Alamo, age 9 and 6 then, no complaints. So yeah, they’re killing the experience themselves and it’s a shame!
Damn, Paul Thomas Anderson fucking did that. I’ve actually warmed up to your premise of flipping the roles of Taylor & Hall, which definitely could enhance their portrayals if that’s how PTA’s script decided to do that. It is what it is & Teyana really carried her portion of the role quite well. Everyone’s basically A-tier, especially the sublime cinematography juxtaposed with the direction. Sean Penn, for me, gives his best performance in any of these since Mystic River. Dude perfectly played the personification of the insecure, empty shithead of a cop, trying to fit into something as stupid as “Xmas Adventurers”. I won’t say it’s the best movie of the year with Sinners literally being right there but I have no problem putting it behind Coogler’s fellow Masterpiece for WB. Big, big shout-out to Chase Infinti. Also tremendous here.
(If you want to see Teyana Taylor in a great role, give “One Thousand & One” a look. Film came & went in 2023, but Taylor was great. I didn’t see the Tyler Perry joint as of this moment, but I think you’ll be pleased with it, Rod.)
GODDAMNIT! VIVA LA REVOLUTION!
I was 15 minutes late to the said start time and as I walked in they were still on trailers so I left for the bathroom. When I came back it was on the final trailer with the movie starting 10 seconds after i sat down. 21 minutes total. I now think the convenience fee when you buy tickets on the app is the convenience of knowing you have the seat you want when you figure out to come 15 minutes after show time.
When the 16 year jump happened I thought to myself that this could be a different version of Saga. Two people of different lands come together during revolution and have a daughter, who’s existence is “forbidden ” and is being hunted for existing.
Rod I definitely feel you on the Jungle Pussy pick up! It literally almost threw me out of the movie I was so confused about where that came from lol. I liked the movie overall but didn’t really love the way he wrote the black women characters I agree they felt a little off. Could totally see it being really interesting if Regina Hall and Teyana switched characters. Great breakdown!
Perfect amount of spoilers and analysis. Thank you. This platform is easy to stream in the car, with no commercials, it sounded like a conversation more than a podcast. – Jo
