Only regret I have about Del Toro’s Frankenstein, is I didn’t see this bad boy in theaters, because man, it’s beautiful. The pacing early on, does hurt it at the beginning, especially with how dark the contrast is, but it eventually picks up & engaging from that point on. I don’t understand critics beef with Oscar Issac’s vocalizations as Victor Frankenstein. Sure, it’s not some Vincent Price, but it’s an admirable choice, that actually serves his characterization, but the real winner is Jacob Elordi as the creature himself, who’s phenomenal throughout. Really liked Mia Goth here, too.

And while the third act is more “wrap it up, b”, I frankly didn’t mind that. Really enjoyed this one.

This was a sexy watch on the big screen well wasn’t sexy seeing Christoph Waltz characters syphilis head. I came out of the theater thinking maybe I could conquer death too by creating life. Oscar Isaac’s is one heck of an actor, got me rooting for his evil ass to keep surviving, that’s how much I was enjoying his performance. Anytime I see an enemy in public, I channel my inner monster and call out in the same way my man was yelling “VICTOOOOR, VICTOOOOR” polar bears will never attack anyone yelling like that. Not my favorite Guillermo movie, but still had a good time!

I watched this after reading the book, and I disagree, it absolutely *IS* Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The book doesn’t have pitchforks and angry mobs, and most of the scenes from the creatures perspective were taken straight from the book, including the villagers and the old blind man! I agree that the third act was rushed though. They did make some changes from the book, namely Victors relationships with his family, but the story was more alike than different imo and I enjoyed it a lot!!

Which is true, but it’s why I liked it! I highly recommend reading the book, I absolutely loved it. Was difficult to get used to at first cuz it was written in 1831 but it’s soooo good. It had even slower pacing at the beginning than this movie tho, fair warning LOL. And Victor is even more insufferable.

Thanks for the review. After hearing you and Karen talk about it on her show, I decided to give it a try.
It was entertaining, shot well, and the cadaver animation was cool in a not too gross way.
The story sort of combined Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder humor and the classic black and white renditions, and yet it still had its own unique feel. I would give it a four because it’s one of those movies I put on when I want to fall asleep, the droning music is like a sleeping pill for me. The use of subtitles was not to overwhelming which was a plus.
