    Dear Rod, Karen, and Justin,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing just because it has been an emotional week.

On Monday, I re-read my journal entries from 1998 and 1999, when I first met the person who became my life partner. I did that reading because I’m pitching an essay that (if accepted) may pave a path for me to write the memoir that’s been floating in the back of my mind for a while. Anyway, reading those journal entries also reminded me of what I had apparently forgotten on purpose: my relationship with the woman who became my dissertation advisor was abusive from the beginning, not just at the end.

In response to one of your Pre-Game listener letters, you said that those who were hazed when they pledged sororities and fraternities were more respected than those who went “paper.” That’s absolutely the case! I submitted to hazing as an undergrad, and those are still fond memories for me. But here’s the other part of my truth: I have always admitted that what I tolerated to become an AKA was nothing compared to the hazing I endured to become a PhD. After re-reading my journal this week, that’s even more true than I remembered. But, I still have no regrets.

Re-visiting these journal entries has been emotional, and I can’t believe I took all of that from the Black woman who became my dissertation advisor, but I LOVE my life as a professor. Figuring out ways to navigate her fuckery may not have been trauma-free, but it gave me a life that I truly love and that empowers me to operate in the profession in a totally different way–a way that I’m proud of.

    Sending y’all good energy always,

What up Rod, Karen, and Justin?

I just wanted to say to Rod thank you for always having your receipts and keeping the same energy in the fight of just being a righteous individual. You give me hope that some black men are still reasonable in this world. I don’t understand why people are just so stuck in this “cause I said so” mentality with believing things and making decisions. I strive to get the best information to make the best decision for everything. I don’t understand people and it makes me sad at times.

Anyways bro, I just wanted to say that I appreciate y’all and one of these days I can get back out to Charlotte and we can get some dinner and we can chop it up like years past.

To the friends in my head, I love and appreciate y’all.

    Drow.

P.S.: Don’t forget about the discount code. I need to reup for the year.

Hey, rod, Justin, and a relaxed Karen!

Karen I hoped that massage was everything! We missed you last week!

I finished the impeachment series and Monica (or the actress who played her) was mvp! Great series. Has there been any word if they are doing another season and who it will be on?

I also checked out the harder they fall on Netflix last week! I’m a big fan of Regina king and idris! I did enjoy the movie! Was a bit long but it was a cool watch! Have you guys had a chance to see it?

Rod last week you were talking about Jay-Z and playing songs in the background. I must say I grew up with him as my favorite artist as well. I remember on 9/11 , 2001! Even as the twin towers fell, I found my ass in a local record shop (remember those) buying the blueprint cd (remember those) and took it home and listened to that classic album! Congrats to him entering the rock and roll hall of fame! I think it was big of him to acknowledge dame dash because it was a big part of his success in the early years especially. It was even bigger of dame to respond and say he wanted to have a sit down and perhaps squash any beef/clear the air. I mean at 50+ we should be fighting over dumb shit! So I appreciate that gesture from both sides.

    You guys are A1

    Appreciate all the shows

    Have a good one

    Fyahworks out!!!

Hi Rod and Justin (we missed you, Karen). I Loved this episode! The pre-game is my number one source for new podcast, tv, shows books, restaurants, etc. On that note, While you guys were wrapping up the show I heard you mention a few Netflix shows that you were watching and I also wanted to share one with you guys that was pretty damn good. I watch this show called The Cabin with Brett Kreishner. And it’s basically show up that features Brett ,a white comedian, and a bunch of all of his other comedian friends and they get into all types of shinanegans in this sexy life’s cabin in the woods. My favorite episode featured the HILARIOUS Miss Pat and there are other great cameos as well. I thought you would love it if you haven’t seen it already.

You guys are truly amazing! Keep up the AMAZING WORK!!! Love you guys!
