I am up to date on my shots but I’m not sure if I got the MMR vaccine when I was a kid so I have to ask my mom. I know I had the chicken pox when I was a kid but I never had the measles. But I may get a measles vaccine just in case because the pharmacist said getting one wouldn’t be harmful. It’s better to be safe than sorry because these dumbasses out here not getting vaccinated is not going to get me and mine.

About the absurd, stupid, ignant, and ill-conceived idea of making English the official language. First off, it is a bad idea, thankfully it is not something that can be done by executive order.
That being said, being an “official language” basically has one actual tangible result and it is not about what language people speak or the availability of languages for accessibility on government forms. Those won’t change by making English the official language.
What will change is that all official contracts will need to be written in English. This doesn’t sound like a big deal, except that it means that restaurants with a French-speaking owner hiring a Parisian chef will need to have the official contract between the owner and the worker written in English and then a professional certified translator rewrite those documents in a language where both parties can understand it. This goes for other similar situations as well and would likely hit construction firms and non-chain restaurants the hardest.
TLDR: Making English the official language has an extremely high cost on small businesses with null, zero, nada, zilch, no benefits to anyone anywhere.

Word Nerd clocking in for duty! The phrase “high on the hog” comes from back in the day when you were seen as wealthier for eating the more expensive cuts of pork from an upper portion of the pig, than a lower portion. Think of it like eating a roast pork loin, vs eating pigs feet. Rich food vs. peasant food. “High” means the location, not getting high off your own bacon in this context.

Had to pop in & speak up because I am represented by one of those 10 who voted for the censure. I responded when I saw twitter ranting & raving about just throwing our rep away & they don’t live here, our reps’ district is vast and our city/county & maybe a smidge of another are her only blue votes. Everywhere else is a sea of red. Ohio is a sea of red with blue dots & pockets of non-voting Amish. Republicans have a chokehold here state level incl. State Supreme Court.
Dems mostly win here because they are middle line & big on “reaching across the aisle”. Most would say the republicans are midline, I have a narrow view when it comes to women’s rights so I wouldn’t agree as they do everything here to destroy our bodily autonomy, but conservative extremists did chase Rep Boehner out of US House leadership claiming he also was “too moderate”.
Anyways, the Dem rep, she votes for dem policies majority of the time to help us regular people. She supports unions, the ACA, the CFPB, Infrastructure Bill etc. She advocated hard with another Dem rep, to get tech companies to bring chip manufacturing here & thus jobs beyond just auto factories. I won’t act like I know her exact reasons for going with the censure, but I’m not in the “they’re secret republicans” camp (people on twitter) I think that’s going too far & it’s likely more to do with the closeness of her race the past 2 cycles.
The party here has not presented a replacement for her & if they do… that person will also be more moderate. AoC types unfortunately won’t win here. The dangerous possibility is that she’ll be replaced by a MAGA-nut like that other rep I mentioned earlier just did. A capitol riot denier was her challenger this past election cycle. I don’t want our district to fall in those types of hands, if the dems can’t present a feasible replacement for her sorry I vote for her to keep MAGAs out.

I believe that part of why I am still annoyed over Nov elections is what you guys beautifully summarized in how many of us cover the Democrats like the NBA. I have even heard people questioning Hakeem Jeffries leadership because of the 10 Dems who voted to censure Rep Al Green. The same Jeffries who held every single Democrat in line while the GOP was fighting over the speakership? When Trash Mike Johnson couldn’t keep the government running thanks to his bitch blond bleach & tide eating Marjorie Taylor greene who wanted a shutdown, didn’t Hakeem Jeffries score concessions including aid to Ukraine in exchange for Dems support? All of a sudden, we’re back to only Bernie sanders is the one with leadership!
Yeah, the suffering ain’t enough yet. The lies are still holding for too many. Thanks again for this episode (I do get mad at the end of that section too lol)
