thanks for this review, it was an amazing film and I tend to agree with you that they had the right balance of arc-time for each character. There was enough time to see everyone shine and also for keeping the overall framing of the movie around Ma & Pa Reed. It will be interesting to see how they integrate their story into the main MCU timeline.

I like how they foreshadowed the midcredit reveal of Dr. Doom in the very beginning with the empty Latveria chair. It conveyed a lot of information in a very brief moment.

Finally, a fully-realized Fantastic Four film that doesn’t shortcut the lore. Wouldn’t say it’s “fantastic”, which that’s mainly reserved for Michael Giacchino’s brilliant score, but the film itself is gripping when it needs to be. Loved the cast, loved the first hour of this, even as part of the second-half doesn’t live up to the dual reveal of Galactus & Shalla-Bal & the relationship of Marvel’s First Family.

I didn’t know Sue Storm was “one of them ones”, when she overpowered Galactus. Couldn’t believe that on the first watch. Impressive shit & Vanessa Kirby’s just A-tier in the role.

Been seeing statements about Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards being underwhelming in the role & I couldn’t disagree vehemently with those detractors. He’s a stoic technocratic who struggles to talk to people, since he burdens himself with knowledge of trying to protect the world. Oddly enough, it’s Tony Stark’s burden as a character, he just masks it better. His scene with Sue in the bedroom in a conversation about intellect & humanity locked in who those characters are at their core.

Johnny & Ben are both good, though, I wish Ben’s arc with Natasha Lyonne’s character had more scenes. Then again, we’ve seen this man be the Eeyore of the team in like 3 of these, I just wanna see him smash them ‘Tasha cakes. Loved Johnny’s scene with Bal. Him figuring out her origins was brilliantly done.

So, yeah, a lot of it’s great. Certainly wish it could’ve been longer by about ten minutes. For now, it’s good to have a damn good entry of these for once, so I’ll take it.

    Hi Rod and Karen,

I enjoyed the Fantastic Four and would see it again. I have never been a fan of F4 in the comics for a reason that I know, to borrow a Karen saying is irrational and illogical. Show me Thanos, sure, show me Galactus, sure, etcetera, etcetera., but show me a once fully human man who is now a man-rock, and I can’t. For instance, I appreciated the beard as a representation that organically Ben’s human essence is there, but I always end up thinking, “What is he excreting when he has to go to the bathroom?” and my mind is off and running. This always side-tracked me in the comics, but here, I was just hoping the actress from Poker Face would see beyond that; I mean that baby loved him, so why can’t she. Perhaps it was the Pedro Pascal of it all — damn — is there nothing that man can’t do.

Howdy Rod and Karen, I had to take a moment after the end of this fantastic movie to gather myself. I had tears in my eyes the first time I saw F4 family in their suits, the Silver Surfer doing her thing, and main man Galactus. Even seeing the accuracy of Moleman just made me full of joy. Galactus taking a look at the statue of liberty haha. Now that’s a big lad right? Thank you for this review. I’ll sleep good tonight. What a cool intro for Franklin’s powers, I did wonder if they’d also introduce Valeria but I’m fine with one kid for now. We had a birth on a spaceship yooooo when Silver Surfers hands almost went through Sue’s womb I wasn’t ready. What if Galactus got sent into our solar system? What happens if Galactus is introduced to Arby’s? Hey hey hey … might be how he turns vegetarian.

    Fantastic fouuuuuuuuuur!

Oh btw is that a real baby acting or CGI? I don’t know nor care, I just wanted to give the baby actor props!

Movie was cooler on 2nd watch
