There used to be an Obama Chicken & Waffles restaurant in Osaka…
Near me there’s a place that sells chicken & waffles, my son tried it once and decided that it wasn’t worth it… I mean, I’m sure it can be done well. But even then it’s never going to be a top option.
Hasan Piker is the nephew of The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur. Way back in the Bush & Obama years I was a Young Turks fan and subscriber, and I saw Hasan get his start there. I’m not a big Twitch watcher but I’ve noticed he’s gotten a lot of traction via Twitch streaming and got regularly reported as a left-leaning influencer by gaming news sites like Kotaku.
I’ve long since stopped watching The Young Turks for a lot of the same reasons you’ve criticized them and other professional leftists in the past, and it sounds like Hasan has absorbed the same biases and blind spots they have – “both sides are equally bad and corrupt”, “it’s always the Democrats’ fault”, and “the racism and bigotry is secondary to economics”
Until the (mostly white) liberal and leftist folks can reckon with the fact that the racism and bigotry (particularly anti-black racism) is still in large part the driving force behind US politics, they will always miss the point and push messages that hurt rather than help. I think the thing that hurts all of us most today is that the racism and bigotry is covered in thinly veiled messages that give the bigots plausible deniability (to other white folks at least) even though they’re being racist right in your face. The news media is too scared (and/or corrupt) to say the emperor has no clothes, and no one listens when black folk say it.
To end on a more fun note, I’m sure the The Transformers: The Movie: The Apology Tour will include theater screenings of the movie this year. Hasbro just pushes the toys first because that’s their main focus. Here’s part of the Hasbro press release that accompanied the release of that YouTube video:

The 1986 Apology Tour: Forty years later…it still hits like a truck. The loss of Optimus Prime remains one of the most talked-about moments in franchise history. Hasbro is leaning into that shared experience with a playful, year-long “1986 Apology Tour,” bringing fans together to grieve, heal, and reminisce together at special fan events & screenings all year long. More information to follow and tissues strongly encouraged.

The movie originally came out in August 1986, so I’d expect those screenings to be announced for summer or early fall of this year. I’ll probably be there and I’d be happy to join y’all for a review later on!
I think the person who wrote in may be on to something about the BAFTA’s deliberately allowing the n word to stay on the broadcast to generate outrage. I don’t think John Davidson saying it was planned like one person said but after it happened they capitalized on it. The royal family is going through it right now with Prince Andrew and they need a distraction. They just didn’t think they’d get as much backlash because of the American blacks speaking up. We’re just built different. I think because the culture is different for blacks in the UK they have a different mindset about racism. That’s why I love my people on this side of the pond. We ride for each other. If I got to choose my race if I was reincarnated , I’d choose black in every lifetime.
Just commenting on the Poll regarding Black Joy. My brother was listening, and his analysis was 97% was a good thing, because we don’t want Tim Scott, Clarence Thomas, Candace Owens, and Byron Donaldson to have any joy.
Tourette syndrome is especially a disease that goes to the most outrageous stuff like sexual, racial or anti religious slurs. It’s exactly what it is. I read about it before a lot because it’s a relative of ocd and I used to have problems with ocd thoughts. For me it wasn’t racial stuff but worst case disease thinking. I’m sure that there are also black people who have it. It’s uncomfortable to watch for me always because the emphaty for the person.
Obviously I don’t approve of slurs also , oh the guilt that people might think i have sympathy for the Tourette person and don’t think racial insults are bad. So or is well. White guilt still intact.
I did the 23 and me thing and it says I’m an eastern, southern and Western European mix. The olive skin comes probably from the Balkan.
It’s weird how often people ask. On the weekend I was at a nurse event and one of the nurses who looked Indian was very interested in my heritage and asked also man of those questions , while I would obviously never ask her those questions the same ones because I would think it’s somehow other making. The most frustrating is, when I answer, I see they don’t believe me. “ this Apia is clearly denying her real heritage of ?, how sad” I see in their eyes.
Seeing all the uproar about the Chicken & Waffles discourse is giving me flashbacks to the KitKat wars of the Obama era…every video Rod did would make me mad. Thankful that era is over so let the chicken and waffles convo continue!
