I still hear the Carl Lewis clip at random moments and just burst out laughing no matter where I’m at. I was going to pull it up to watch but after this happened 3x I said “oh oh- that’s how addictions begin”… don’t do that to a Paravai-Kaaran again Rod. I need the streets to get used to me with zero smiling. Don’t mess with my timeline!
Re: Fetterman and accountability. The Bernie peeps inability to hold folks accountable in any other way than cancel culture is glaring and unproductive. There is another way. Here in Seattle our more progressive option won for mayor (I volunteered for the campaign). Recently she has seemed to flip on a core surveillance issue in the city and not only are people calling it out, but the very people who ran her campaign have organized to protest against this decision and put pressure on the mayor…this week other groups who supported her have done the same. It’s been refreshing to see bc in a world of stan culture politics it’s dope to see people stand on principles rather than tap dance for power, and organize in a way that is actually effective vs just trying to cancel her. Would be dope to see any of that translate into natl politics. We are so consumed with content and the currency of the internet, but those are the very things that got us this nazi reality tv ass administration. The only way out will be organization…we cannot Stan our way out of this.
That a great example for people really doing things. That actually can lead to something. The non stop online outrage gives people the feeling of being engaged without them really doing anything. When DT was still on twitter, people suggested giving him a phone that goes nowhere but he thinks it would post on twitter. Well, online outrage and the non stop posting is doing exactly what was suggested . People think they are moving something, but they just create negative noise like bots and no real change. It’s worse as if they didn’t do anything, because they feel like they are doing important stuff but they are just burning their energy in the firepit of outrage and when it’s time to vote, many of them don’t even go. I really like that TBGHT talks about this, I don’t see anyone else doing it, becasue bigger media also uses the outrage clicks and engagement to make money, so they don’t want it to change.
