As someone who has had braces twice, once as a teenager and the other time in my 30’s because I didn’t wear my retainer as a teen. So I say if you feel self conscious about your teeth and you have the means to get braces don’t let what people say get in the way. Do you and do what makes you happy. My aunt is in 70’s and she had braces so it’s never too late.
Karen I remember before you got your braces and you talked about getting them and I always thought you had a pretty and unique smile but I’m also glad you got braces because it made you happy. Either way your smile is great.

I always tip at least 20 percent. Because I worked in a restaurant in college. For standard service it’s 20 percent and I’ll tip more for good service. Even when service is really bad I’ll tip at least 15 percent unless service is egregiously bad which has only ever happened to me once in my many years on Earth and I left a penny just so they knew it was intentional. That’s another long story. But anyway I hate people who weaponize tipping. And who treat servers badly. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people snap their fingers at servers. When I’ve dined with someone who has done that I never go out with them again.

Now I had forgotten about that Mr Pink talk. It ain’t some foundational wisdom, it’s unnecessary cruelty. Reminded me of a cousin who used to be close growing up and just before I left Nigeria, he came to bid me farewell at a local restaurant and the way that he treated the waitress never sat well with me. Made the poor woman change his beer 3x after opening the bottle, claiming that it wasn’t cold enough. The way that he addressed her made it sound like we were from a higher class in society and she was beneath us. Even in my home region, the only place that I am a majority in Nigeria I have never addressed anyone like that. I was so embarrassed, that I lost my appetite. Everybody at the table apart from me and my person were from the main ethnicities of Nigeria, the young woman being embarrassed was a minority (just like us). Since that day, I never looked at him the same. I have helped him in hours of need until I stopped and explained why I lost respect for him as over the years, he’s only humble when poverty hugs him. As soon as I help or someone else opens the door, he turns on the nearest minority. The restaurant was just an example of what he wanted to unleash. So I bid him adieu. Saddest thing is that his mother while she was alive was one of the biggest inspirations on me!

Re: your point about “all you are selling is your relationship to the people on your show” reminded me of one of my fave podcasts “So True w/Caleb Hearon” (who is a great standup btw) and he talks about how he has a rule that no one can come on the show if he doesn’t know them even though the standard format is nonstop celebrity interviews. He said that lots of famous people reach out to come on and promote something and he responds that they should grab lunch first and they always decline and he just won’t let them come on. He said that he’d rather do shows with folks no one knows but he loves because the conversation will be interesting. ultimately the show does hinge on that relationship and it still blew up anyways so I guess that proves your point.

    Update on Frankfurt guy:
We dated for 2-3 years. We were in our 20 ties and both law students. We lived three doors from each other. I had fallen in love hard in the exam prep phase with him. At this time you don’t talk future like this immediately, so his views on life can up later.
The meeting is even more crazy that you can imagine. I swear on big Pharma it happened.
I just talked about him on the show. I haven’t t seen him maybe for 18 to 19 years.
I was walking to my car and thought, wouldn’t it be weird if I saw him! I think he works in Frankfurt. And i turned the corner and looked directly into his face.
He said, he only told me that he would move often for work and couldn’t provide stability this way or tell e when, and I said, you wanted to work in the US for a longer time and what I was supposed to do there or was it me staying g here? And he said, it was just an idea!

So I don’t know. But that he has no wife or kids and he was interested on his terms shows me, it was also fear of commitment. I told him, I married the next guy, you are my last ex! That’s interesting.
He said, I’m going to go home and ask chat gpt what this says about me. ( he is funny)
The colegue who was also funny said something, like, were you so traumatized that you wanted to seal the next deal for real? I said, it looks like it.
I took a piture to prove to myself that it really happened.

Just one more thing. Isn’t this insane? The timing? Is my life now organized around TBGHT content? How?

Now hear me out Apia. I borrowed EviE’s crytaaaal ball and looked into the past, that Ex of yours was planning to move to Charlotte North Carolina so it says. Maybe it’s the whyte powder from Arby’s that’s affected it. But anyways, sticking with the script, but what IF he brought you to Charlotte and one day while fed up you found TBGWT and then got multiple Black friends… we would never know now. Let’s get my Time Machine working so we can test it out. Let everyone not celebrating their birthdays send me $680 each to get the Solar panels (adjusted for tariffs) needed to send Apia back in time to test out this theory.

Ronan Raphael, I think the Kool aid man must have given you some of his funny drink
