Rod, have you ever watched an episode of Ebert & Roeper? This Scary Movie film reminded me of a disscertation on Michael Mann’s maligned Ali film, where he describes the movie doing the same shit over and over. Scary Movie as a franchise, whether with Airplane & Naked Gun director, David Zucker and The Wayans siblings in totality, they hit a wall and run shit into the ground. Those Sinners gags sucked the life out of me more than dudebros hating on the new GoW: Laufey game. Look, I love silly shit, but there’s a reason why last year’s Naked Gun hit as well as it did. Not going ultimate overkill on a joke is how shit prospers. It’s why Airplane, Hot Shots 1 & 2, The original Naked Gun Trilogy (though, the trans joke in three is just awful, ftr) & maybe the first Scary Movie but, yeah, it’s just hard to maintain a level of freshness in these.
The metacommentary joke should’ve been the best course of action towards making this a cut above the rest of these. Glad the Wayans got their shit back, but these films problems started way before the Weinsteins took them off the marquee after part 2.
I’ll defend the Jermaine sketch, though. Shit had nothing to do with anything here & was the best thing outside of the final moments.
