The Nerd Off: (Protected Content)

Hello to all of you fine ass nerds out there.
Damn, what a great summer for movies & I don’t think there’s enough attention paid to the fact that movie studios brought the heat to original &/or adapted material that’s been released since May. This is why I always shit on the Internet for being the disingenuous ombudsman for cinephiles. As y’all know, Rod & Karen, ya boy, SandlerAgony (Film_Wanderer on IG) watches everything. Literally. Everything (example: Avoid Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man at all costs, y’all. AI slop & murderous kids was a bad idea)
When it comes to supporting the arts, particularly with theater releases, all types of movies are important to me. Even Musicals, which is probably my least favorite genre but I’ll support ’em if I have to, which is why I’ve never bought into the current false narratives about movies, in general, that Marvel, DC and other ancillary comic book movies are ruining the business, when Hollywood as an institution has wrecked its business model like Trump wrecks shit like Wreck it Ralph (except, Ralph is empathetic, but we knew that already).
From Silicon Valley, shareholders, Penske Media, social media & just straight-up racism, it’s evident just like the political & news arenas, that the movie business in all anals (traditional, influencer or otherwise) is infected with its own bullshit, but they don’t want to say what the ACTUAL problem is.
But I digress, I’m thankful for Obsession & Inde Navarrette (protect your peace, ma’am. These always online mofos are unhealthily obsessed with her film choices), The Odyssey, Devil Wears Prada 2, Is God Is, End of Oak Street, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Invite, Backrooms (which I didn’t necessarily like but respect the vision; 20 year-old director), even something mid as fuck as Jason Statham’s Mutiny. We need mediocre flicks like that.
And I can name more, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to be verbose about the magic of movies & the positive importance of them. The Threads, Twitters, Blueskys, Instagrams & YouTubes are not real-life & should stop being treated as such.
People bitching about “they don’t make anything” & “I didn’t see a promotion”, forgive me for being an asshole, but that’s on the viewer & the audience in totality. People say they want creativity & less white centered stories & they are out there. We could have more Is God Is & 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple but you’re playing yourself with assbad debates with people named after a Gorilla Grodd avatar talking about Thunderbolts underperforming. It’s just tired, at this point.
If Tom Cruise’s gone ride for cinema by being the mayor of movies, then, damnit, I’ll take that role, too!
In closing, the Quake games are crack! Dawn of the Machine rips!
Peace.
Hello Rod, Karen and lovers of all things nerdy,
Once again, please cue the Rod is right music…….Kuroko’s Basketball is Phenomenal!!! I am currently at the beginning of Season 2, but so far, I am so into the story of Kuroko, Kagami and the Generation of Miracles. I will forever love how Kuroko just pops up on folks, even though he has been there the whole entire time. I am also loving the background story of how Kuroko interacted with each player of the Generation of Miracles. I am so SAT for this. More of my thoughts to come.
Speaking of being SAT……I am also here for Laterns. This story is giving True Detective with a side of Rebel Ridge 2. Hal interogating the alien with the questions about President Obama is just wild to me. But Hal isn’t wrong tho….. More thoughts as the series progresses.
I know you will talk about it at good detailed length today, but I am so excited about the new X-Men cast. I was looking at the cast and they mostly have a theater background, which I love. And Maya Boyd as Storm is an excellent choice! Again, I am here for it and cannot wait for this movie……all the way in 2028.
Anyhoo, thank you Rod and Karen and esteemed Nerd guests. May you have a beautiful day!
Okay, responding to Ms Barnes’ write in about people spoiling things. There is one that I’m proud of. Not because I ruined someone’s experience but because it was revenge.
Years and years ago, my brother ruined Tywin Lannister’s death because he was as GOT book reader and I was not. When he did it, I didn’t react, I just took note. And I waited. And waited. Then, a few years later, Spider-Man: No Way Home released. And because I’m a real one like y’all, I saw it on Thursday night.
So, Friday, I asked him: Did you see Spider-Man yet? He of course said “no”. So I proceed to tell him that Green Goblin kills Aunt May. And he goes “What??? Spoilers!!!” And I just reminded him that years ago he spoiled GOT for me and now we’re even and to have a blessed day.
I know this comment was in response to a small part in a much longer episode, but I had to spread the gospel of revenge lol. Hope y’all have a great week and I’ve been listening to y’all since 2015ish and I don’t plan on stopping.
I’m so proud of you 😀
