In the real world, Hope ain’t nothing but a lie but in THIS world of Hope…well, damn, hello flattery.
Anyway, besides the occasional janky CG aliens, the film’s constantly moving with some of the best chase scenes & tension I’ve seen all year. Even the story, which does take some getting used to, is quite moving about a whole section of beings, human & alien, not understanding one another with the unfortunate kidnapping by one oblivious person.
I felt the length but I still didn’t mind the ride. Contemplating seeing this one again really soon & might give y’all a second opinion.
Otherwise, flaws & all, fucking heat!
Yeah, still heat. I don’t really have much else to say that’s been said already. I will admit, I also rewatched this because I walked out on the first viewing so I didn’t know that my man, Sung-ki, survived being KO’d by a branch. Definitely need him for the sequel.
Love the swings this movie takes & yeah, the CG is quite unfinished here & there, as there’s not enough rendering on the aliens, even if the intention is sound. Still got chills when it used one human person to murk another one. Insanity.
Hoyeon has so much swagger, too. Never Scared Heavyweight Champion of the World level swagger.
I even connected with the aliens better on a rewatch with their mission of finding their son. Pretty good chance all of these characters are going to reluctantly team-up to fight a bigger threat.
Not a perfect film, but it’s still great & there’s a lot here to admire.
Also, big, big shout-out to composer Michael Abels (Get Out, Us & Nope) for making a banger of a score.
