Hi Rod and Karen, I am so glad I saw this movie. I loved the actor that plays Holly Quinn, she is a treasure. She portrayed Holly Quinn in the way I have always seen her in my mind. Nerd moment, did Quinn ever fight against the Joker with Poison Ivy as her partner in the comics or am I just wishful thinking?

Movie review recommendation – The Gentleman – Matthew McConaughey’s movie that came out late January. He is playing bad guy trying to become legal in England. I call it the “Rooting for the Heel Turn” movie. If you ever watch wrassling, “good” guy turns “bad” and is even better as the “bad”…examples The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Sasha Banks.

What a fun movie this was. The action, the comedy & the casting. Margot Robbie is a great character actor & adapted more layers to Harley Quinn than ever before. Sure she’s psychotic, but is a smart lady with a Ph. D in psychiatry. I also lost it while she was feening off that Egg sammich. I also wanna give a shout-out to one of my white woman faves in one Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress. This is probably the most action I’ve seen her do since Scott Pilgrim & that Thing prequel in 2011. She was also funny & played well to that character. Ewan McGregor’s Ewan McGregor, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Bosco & Chris Messina were pretty good. I didn’t notice any tight shots with the action, as we got to see it all. I know Chad Staleski from the John Wick films came in for reshoots, but I’m still giving all the credit to Cathy Yan here. It’s her film & she did a good job with it. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wasn’t even going to see this movie because suicide squad was bad and DC is.. yeah. Seeing you all review it convinced me to check it out and I’m so glad I did, DC is really pulling it together and if they focus less on universe building and more on telling stories they might just make it back.

PS: y’all going to have to point out where the wokety wokes are mad about in the heights because my fiancee and I watched that trailer a couple of times and it looks like while they have light skinned latinx people as the leads it looks heavy afro latinx in general (Mars from she’s gotta have it,Dre from Straight Outta Compton, all the black people in the back, etc.). In the meantime I ain’t boycotting or fauxcotting because Hamilton was great and I can’t wait to see my people represented like this.

After watching this movie, nobody wants the smoke with Margot Robbie.

Also, one of Black Mask’s grievances against Harley Quinn was voting for Bernie. Coincidence?

    I think not…

Rod and Karen, Thank you for your review of Birds of Prey. It was fun and made me excited about the movie. Literally every other review I’ve hear have crapped all over this movie. It was really disheartening. Anyway, thanks again. ~Karena

I thought this movie was delightful! All the actors did a great job! I laughed so much watching this! I haven’t seen the new Harley Quinn show on DC Universe, so her portrayal here reminded me a lot of her character in Batman The Animated Series. Especially the gag with the egg sandwich. Just like that episode where all she wanted was to buy that red dress and at the end Batman gives it to her.
Ewan McGregor was so good as Black Mask, I was almost sad he died because he was so good! He was funny and creepy at the same time. I was tense every time Black Canary interacted with him.
That being said Jurnee Smollett was awesome too and I’d love to see her and Mary Elizabeth reprise their roles in other movies.
I agree with Karen on how I loved the way they allowed us to be in Harley’s head with the direction of the movie. It made it fast paced and very exciting and fun!
The sexual tension between Black Mask and Zsasz made me go back and read an interview Ewan did, where he said that those two characters in this film were probably gay. There were so many scenes I just thought they should be kissing.
Like you said, I could see where they could have brought Batman in, but I didn’t miss him. And if they do a sequel it would be awesome if they added Poison Ivy. So far I’ve only seen people be upset about Cassandra Cain, but she can still become an assassin then eventually Batgirl even in this imagining of her character. And I’d like to see that. I also thought Black Panther was purposefully released in Black History Month, you know, for the culture. I didn’t see it as marvel dumping it in February, I didn’t know February was seen as a movie dumping ground.
    Thanks for all the reviews!
    Love y’all,
    Iman

Hi Rod and Karen, I *finally* listened to your review of “Terminator: Dark Fate”, I was holding off because I was going to watch it first, but it was taking me so long I just gave up and listened. It sounds really good, and I think I’m going to have to watch it now based on your review! By the way, Mackenzie Davis who played Grace was absolutely fantastic in the TV show “Halt and Catch Fire”. Love ya! *hugs*
