Bernie is an old bitter bigot. At this point he’s so focused on trying to convert maggots he’s totally lost the plot. He’s alienating the people who could actually grow the base but him and edge lords like David Hogg only value the white cis male vote. And this is why the democrats will keep losing. I won’t say I’m actively wishing for Bernie to drop dead like I am a certain orange doofus but if he dies I won’t be upset.

Bernie is a gadfly, and in that role he is valuable. Having him in charge never made sense (especially since he was blind on many issues). He’s gotten better in the last couple years, but he’s still not a leader.

I’m late to the game – but I wonder if people have cut down on drinking alcohol now that it has been classified as a carcinogen. Previously, we (or at least I…) knew the risks of alcohol in the traditional sense: risk of addiction, liver issues when used to excess, judgement impairment. If people don’t smoke because it can cause cancer, are people making the same choice with alcohol? I don’t drink enough for it to have that be a factor in curbing my drinking, but others might be making alcohol related health decisions.

Bernie does fine representing his constituents on the level he is at. But he has not embraced the community in a larger sense that would have him be successful on a presidential level. You can’t just gloss over “black problems” as if they’re not American problems. Show up for the people, the people will show up for you. It will sound ageist to be “sit down grandpa, you’re too old for this game,” but at what point will The Olds have enough hubris and put their ego aside to start thinking ahead for their succession for the future of party and country?

In this day of the internet, I no longer take people seriously who throw that word revolution around. I got got really bad pre 2016 elections and was sounding a lot like them Bernie Bros (I did appear in the Guardian with a group of NYC based military veterans on that kool-aid endorsing Bernie.) I was more alert to the overseas game pushed by the Russian internet farms that I never paused to wonder why all of a sudden everyone around me in NYC was talking

Dang it, I thought I typed this in response to Apia’s comment. Messed up the whole flow. The Paravai-Kaaran says don’t type just before falling asleep, oh my Rod gonna fry me, I might as well start frying myself. See, see, the Knicks winning in FIVE!!!

I often thought that a special brand of left leaning people can easily switch to be right wing. I know people like that, for example my father in law.
My theory; they never really care about the cause, they are always more about themselves and how the movement makes them feel.
They enjoy the energy of being angry, they like lecturing people and shocking them with their views. Also a revolution is something they would enjoy, no matter what kind because they don’t care about the chaos and deaths it would create, they don’t really care about others. The sacrifices ( always of other people) is something they see as necessary. They think in this kind of chaos, they would thrive and get an upper hand.
I mean, Hilter and Stalin were supposedly on other sides of the political spectrums but their actions look pretty similar.

I recall the 1st time that I looked a little under the headlines at Stalin and was surprised to learn that actions he took looked mighty similar to his so called opposite Hitler. It would help me down the line to recognize authoritarian or dictators pretty early no matter what they package themselves in. But talk about one of life’s shocking discoveries for me back then. Cause I was under the impression: socialist = can do no evil or wrong!

      • ApiafromGermany

In our German ( pre hitler) history, we had two kinds of socialists. The ones who want an evolution, and the others who want a revolution. The revolution guys dint like the evolution guys ( the spd who is also building the current government with the cdu) they found them not extreme enough and did their own thing. And that’s what allowed Hitler to get power. Sounds familiar?
I don’t trust people who are not revolutions. They tend to be very bloody and when everything is chaos, the common people always suffer.

        • ApiafromGermany

People who want revolutions I wanted to say
