We are definitely cooked as a society. I still have a little hope but it’s the size of a gnat.
The Idiots Folder is a splendid idea and the Paravai-Kaaran loves it. I sure wrote that down. Thanks for sharing that!
As for society being cooked, you damn right. Did you not see a trainer of Ninjas in Japan, take a break from dropping mad data info to stab the artist formerly known as a Ronin in the back? No honor, no rules, we back to the Wild West my brethren. Play “I Wanna Know What Love Is”
Data is a dual-edged sword. It can be used to target vulnerable populations for good or ill. The lack of racial data in France & Germany has led to an inability to track and address systematic racism. That being said, having the data alone is not enough. The systematic sidelining and erasure of Ainu & Ryukyu culture/language in Japan continues to happen with data available to see it.
This also goes back to something you talked about earlier, making English the official language (it still is not legally the official language of the United States, to clarify). Because Japanese is the official language, Ainu (mainly Hokkaido & the northern islands) and Ryukyu (mainly Okinawa & the southern islands) languages could not be used in schools. While it is now legal to speak those languages and teach them as secondary subject matter, they are now on the verge of extinction.
Sorry to bring it down…
About personal data. Let’s take an example from my white, European life.
After I had children, I decided never to mention them on my CV, because what’s more likely in our world, that it would help me ( look at that Apia, killing it at work AND being a mother? Let’s give her more money!)
Or hurting me ( that Apia has children now, so she will call in sick non stop and the job isn’t her priority anymore!)
Definitely the second. So I didn’t ever talk about it during the job interview and so didn’t the potential employer. Has never been an issue.
Giving more data than necessary is trusting the other side to do the morally right thing.
Does your government have record of you having children?
Of course. And it makes sense. Children need health insurance, school, their IDs…
We will not get punished somehow because we have kids.
But I don’t want to argue about this issue, I just see that in the current political climate there will be no help to communities in need, there will be more attempts to make their vote count less and I really don’t like this.
Now I’m thinking about my new rebellious, rule breaking raps named :
“ doing math for fun on a Sunday “
“ early to bed is my jam”
And “ Yoga everyday will blow your mind”
I’m a really dangerous woman who lives on the edge, as you can see.
