I enjoyed this less than y’all but it’s a fun, succinct little film that doesn’t spend time trying to be dense. The second act did drag, because this suburban ass family has to be the ones to explain why this all came to be & for what it’s worth, I went with it.
Anne Hathaway’s on a damn heater, this year. While this isn’t my favorite performance of the year from her, that woman be emoting like a mofo! Sheeeeettttt, she even got speed! You got the soul of Walter Payton on you, sister! Great performance. Ewan McGregor went through it & came back a pizza man.
The ending’s fine. Saw some people hating it & I’m like, let these niggas have their Deus Ex Machina, for Christ sake. Obi-Wan died for our sins trying to be Triple H (what an effect that was. Hat tip to VFX) & came back like Jesus carrying pizza.
I liked the child actors, Christian Convery & Maisy Stella (Check out The Monkey & My Old Ass, though The Monkey is “mileage may vary” as hell. One of the most divisive movies of last year, but I do recommend it)
It’s a good late-summer release & that’s all it needed to be.
Came here to look for something else and lo and behold I see the review for this movie right after I spontaneously went to go see it. Wasn’t sure based on the trailers but I just love Anne Hathaway. Theatre was completely packed and I think we were all shocked at the gore of it (sorry Karen you are tripping sis). Felt in many ways like a spiritual successor to Jurassic Park which I watched in my movie group this week too. Loved the performances, disliked the lack of niggas, too neerdy to not think about the time loop implications. Since the dad isn’t there to help protect them do they even survive long enough to come back in time? Anyhoo, the PG13 of it all was a sneak bc you think there is plot armor then the daddy got taken out like Jeoffery. We all screamed. Really enjoyed this one and would love a sequel about anyone left behind.
