Me listening to this episode: is Karen using the hard R.
Rod: (Karen) are you using the hard R?

Those corn ribs from Cabo sound amazing. We don’t have Cabo where I live but I do make a corn on the cob and sprinkle it with Trader Joe’s nothing but the elote seasoning and some cotija cheese. It hits the right spot.

    Salutations Rod and Karen!

Regarding Cracker Barrel and the decline of senior diners post pandemic, I can absolutely see that. The Cracker Barrel floor layouts here have two adjoining grand dining halls, with large party tables right next to each other, that’s super spreader seating! My parents are in their 70s and I don’t think they’ll ever sit back down in that place again. I can see a path to remodeling too; the entranceway is filled with “general store” trinkets, knick knacks, clothes, books, candy, etc., so much so that you can barely stand in there to wait for your table. Don’t even know if they’re making money on all of that stuff, but if they could find a way to put that in a separate section, that might work for them.

On McDonald’s and no more free refills and indoor seating, I’ve gotta say, the only people that I have reliably seen sitting inside McDonald’s have been transient men who’ve been released for the day from the nearby shelter. No more free refills may be a deterrent for them, but I feel like people sitting inside fast food restaurants has been diminishing for years, and like everything, the pandemic just sped it up. There’s self-serve kiosks inside to place your order, but otherwise the drive through lines are long everywhere! I remember being in elementary school and each kid getting to have a one on one lunch with our teacher at McDonald’s (can you imagine trying to do that today?) but those days are long over. We’re going on a long road trip next month so we’ll see if any fast food restaurants get any inside seating action from us.

This is one of my favorite shows! Looking forward to the next one!

    Pamela
